TYPES OF SPOUSAL SUPPORT/ALIMONY IN LOUISIANA
Interim Spousal Support
Interim spousal support is designed to maintain the standard of living of the parties during the marriage and is based on the income and expenses of each party. Whoever earns more usually owes the other spouse interim spousal support. Generally, interim spousal support lasts up to six months after the divorce, but it may be terminated sooner or granted for a longer period of time.

Final Spousal Support
Final Spousal support is generally awarded after the divorce is final. The person seeking final spousal support must prove both that: They are free from fault in the breakup of the marriage and that they are financially entitled to it. Final spousal support is not designed to maintain the standard of living during the marriage.
